Greater Belhaven Foundation Awarded

MDOT Transportation Alternatives Grant

The Greater Belhaven Foundation was recently awarded the Mississippi Department of Transportation: Transportation Alternatives Program Grant for a new 12-foot multi-use trail along Peachtree Street in the Belhaven Neighborhood of Jackson, Mississippi.

The new trail creates a pedestrian connection between the neighborhood and the UMMC hospital campus. The trail also links local schools like Belhaven University, Murrah High School, Wells APAC and Bailey APAC Schools, as well as the new Riverside Trail which runs into the Museum Trail.

When completed, the Museum Trail will total six miles and connect from LeFleur’s Bluff State Park through Belhaven Neighborhood to Downtown Jackson terminating at the Jackson State University Campus. This network of multi-use trails connects cultural institutions, restaurants, parks, fitness courts, and other areas promoting quality of life for Jacksonians.

These new pedestrian connections provide Jacksonians the option to walk, bike, or roll to school or work. Join us in thanking The Greater Belhaven Foundation and Jackson Public Schools leading this project and MDOT for investing in a more multi-modal and walkable Jackson! The grant, totaling $440,000, is the largest grant received in GBNF’s history! The foundation will be providing matching funds to complete this project.
